The latest trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder begins with Korg (director Taika Waititi) telling the story of the space viking, Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth), and while Korg’s story gets off track real quick, it is, for the brief moment it happens, perfection. Can Korg narrate the whole film? We need his take on the first appearance of Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale).
Gorr’s fine, though. Let’s talk about Jane.
After the first teaser provided just a second of Jane (Natalie Portman) as Mighty Thor, this trailer goes all out. She looks amazing! She seems super confident! She does really, really cool things with Mjolnir! Like, for instance, this!

I can and will watch that trick several dozen times. Of course, there’s some tension between Jane and Thor, what with it having been eight years, seven months, and six days since they last saw each other. Of course, that tension seems to melt away to sheer admiration (on his part, at least).
And then there’s that too-powerful flick.
“It’s sort of like a midlife crisis film, really,” Waititi told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. “That’s the question we ask everyone: Are we doing the right thing, and are we doing all we can in the world? I think right now, while the world is still healing from this pandemic, it’s a good question to ask. It’s like, well, are we doing enough to look after each other and to look after ourselves?”
If any current Marvel actor can pull off a charming midlife crisis superhero film, it’s Hemsworth, who leans harder and harder into his specific brand of loving-gentle-god-bro humor here. (He looks at Mjolnir like it’s a long-lost pet!) It’s a joy to see. Thor: Love and Thunder cannot arrive soon enough; it’s in theaters July 8th.
